High Above the Clouds – Alpine Ibex in Their Mountain Realm

This series was created near the Hallstätter Glacier, a place where stone, ice, and sky meet in stark simplicity. For hours, I followed a small group of ibex across steep ridges and rocky outcrops, watching them move with effortless grace in terrain that would challenge any human.

The alpine ibex is not a typical flight animal. Males can weigh up to 100 kilograms, yet they navigate vertical rock faces with astonishing agility. They live in small groups, with a life expectancy of around 15–20 years. Encounters at such close distance are rare – they demand patience, stillness, and a willingness to wait for the right moment.

My aim was not to simply photograph wildlife, but to capture the harmony between animal and environment. In these frames, the ibex is not a subject against a backdrop – it is part of the landscape itself, shaped by the same wind, weather, and time that carved the mountains.
