Dark Ice – The Art of Frozen Time
The fine art photography series Dark Ice was created in the Obersulzbachtal, at the Obersulzbachkees Glacier in Austria. In this remote alpine landscape, nature reveals its most intricate structures. A frozen terrain shaped by time, pressure, and motion. The surface of the glacier becomes more than ice; it transforms into an abstract landscape of lines, fractures, and subtle tones that tell a quiet story of transformation.

Exploring the Glacier as a Living Structure
Each photograph in the Dark Ice series captures the tension between fragility and strength. What first appears as a purely natural surface soon unfolds into a geometric composition. Almost architectural in its precision. The cool shades of blue and grey enhance the graphic quality of the textures, creating a visual rhythm that feels both organic and designed.
For me, Dark Ice is about observing change. Glaciers are constantly moving, reshaping themselves over decades, yet they also symbolize permanence. Through the lens, these opposing forces become visible. Stillness and motion, erosion and creation, simplicity and complexity.

Aesthetic and Spatial Presence
In large-format prints, Dark Ice reveals its full visual impact. The fine details of the glacial surface unfold into an almost sculptural presence that can transform the atmosphere of a room. The works integrate seamlessly into modern, minimalist, or architectural interiors. Ideal for private collections, office spaces, galleries, or hotel environments.
The subdued palette and subtle contrast make the series especially suited for large-format wall art, where it adds both calm and sophistication to a space. Each print serves as a statement piece. Understated yet powerful, connecting natural beauty with contemporary design aesthetics.
